Anyone who does not belong to the university world would have given up facing the so many publications dealing with the subject of this book. However, the interest for the archaelogical and ancient history combined with the inquisitiveness to go and search for the remains of the Greek world has convinced the Author of this book to explore subjects relevant for the history of the West.

We know a great deal of the Greek world, its beginning and development, its productions in the field of philosophy, literature, political history; we do not know much of their men (architects, workers, artists), in particular of the technology they made use of in order to build huge walls, great tombs, large temples, impressive still today from their aesthetic point of view.

Templi e fortificazioni in Grecia e Magna Grecia (Temples and Fortifications in Greece and Magna Graecia), with photos made by the Author, begins with the story of temples built between the 9th and the 7th centuries B.C., first made in wood, later in stone; and how, in the first centuries of the Christian era (4th-5th), they were abandoned or destroyed, a few re-used. In the second part of the book the Author deals with temples of the Mycenaean civilization, fortifications, towns, necropolis between the 15th and the 13th centuries B.C., that is before that culture disappeared for ever without any explanation. Some space is given to the megalithic constructions in central Italy (Alatri, Arpino, Ferenino) and the 4th century Greek-like fortifications built in Apulia by the Messapi and the Peuceti (Manduria, Vaste, Muro Leccese, and other places).
